For a while I have had the feeling that doc's got rewarded for perscribing certain drugs. There seems to be some contest for drugs like Nexeum. I thought it was just my imagination then a friend of mine who is a medical transcriber said that my suspicions are correct. They get kick backs and trips for perscribing certain drugs. Disturbing. When I go to the doc I feel like I'm in a scary documentary. Healthcare in US is a mixed bag. I was missed diagnosed for years and given drugs for lymes disease, alergies, sleep disturbance, asthma, fibromyalgia, depression, had my uterus and galbladder out and was fitted for a sleep apena machine. All along I was intolerant of gluten and it took about $125 dollars at a NaturaPath office to figure it out. We are screwed if we listen to most docs because they are now just educated by the Pharma companies who have everything to gain by medicating the hell out of us. Want to get really freaked out check out Codex Alimentarious! A arm of the UN I had not heard of until recently.

I'm with you on the cholesterol testing. There is a lot of controversy about whether cholesterol is all that harmful, and recent studies have shown that taking statin drugs does not reduce the incidence of heart attacks and stroke. Taking the natural Red Yeast Rice will reduce cholesterol without the side effects.

Have you noticed how the so-called normal levels of cholesterol, blood pressure and blood glucose are constantly being reduced to make more of us patients who have to take expensive prescription drugs to stay healthy. Doing this certainly adds to big Pharma's already over-filled coffers.

I think this country and it's attitude toward health is terrible. What do most doctors know about health? All they know is to give you more pills...and I think all these meds are making this country sicker and sicker. When was the last time a doctor gave you some good health advice..never would be my answer. We don't need more drugs we need better doctors. Doctoring today is cook book medicine. You give the doctor your symptom and he will find a drug for it. How about suggesting lifestyle changes and diet changes and vitamins.

Very informative post. I had heard of shingles many years ago, because my parents know some older people. I knew that it was a very painful disease.

I remember the fear my daughter had each time she brought home the "chicken pox paper" from school. I remember when we had an airplane vacation planned and someone in school came down with the chickenpox.

My now 20 year old daughter was 10 and had not had the chickenpox when the vaccine came out. She was more afraid of the chickenpox then of getting the vaccine. We were one of the first to sign up for the vaccine once it reached pediatrician's offices.
