I'm with you on the cholesterol testing. There is a lot of controversy about whether cholesterol is all that harmful, and recent studies have shown that taking statin drugs does not reduce the incidence of heart attacks and stroke. Taking the natural Red Yeast Rice will reduce cholesterol without the side effects.

Have you noticed how the so-called normal levels of cholesterol, blood pressure and blood glucose are constantly being reduced to make more of us patients who have to take expensive prescription drugs to stay healthy. Doing this certainly adds to big Pharma's already over-filled coffers.

I think this country and it's attitude toward health is terrible. What do most doctors know about health? All they know is to give you more pills...and I think all these meds are making this country sicker and sicker. When was the last time a doctor gave you some good health advice..never would be my answer. We don't need more drugs we need better doctors. Doctoring today is cook book medicine. You give the doctor your symptom and he will find a drug for it. How about suggesting lifestyle changes and diet changes and vitamins.

Very informative post. I had heard of shingles many years ago, because my parents know some older people. I knew that it was a very painful disease.

I remember the fear my daughter had each time she brought home the "chicken pox paper" from school. I remember when we had an airplane vacation planned and someone in school came down with the chickenpox.

My now 20 year old daughter was 10 and had not had the chickenpox when the vaccine came out. She was more afraid of the chickenpox then of getting the vaccine. We were one of the first to sign up for the vaccine once it reached pediatrician's offices.

Excellent post on our need for a really comprehensive health insurance program. I've often wondered about these multiple prescriptions. I've seen some real horror stories especially with psychiatric drugs. One drug causes side effects and then another is prescribes. All cause problems with brain chemistry. Before you know it, the patient is receiving a whole cocktail of medications.

I agree. There are a lot of things we can do to live a healthier lifestyle. Turn off the TV and go for a walk!

My thinking exactly. What was once considered a satisfactory blood pressure reading, cholesterol level, or blood glucose level now puts you in the hypertensive, diabetic and high cholesterol ranges because the numbers keep getting lowered so that they can sell more drugs. They come up with new diseases all the time such as restless leg syndrome. Is there anything more criminal than giving Ritalin to young children for the made up disease ADHD? Some of the side effects are downright scary. Alleviate your rheumatoid arthritis but get a life threatening lymphoma or serious infection instead.
